The call for a national conference has brought together various left movements, groups and individuals in successful provincial conferences (in Gauteng and the Western Cape) and workshops in other provinces. These events have stimulated vibrant and exciting conversations on various political and ideological themes that are defining the content of a new democratic left politics. To deepen the conversation on the content of democratic left politics the National and Gauteng facilitation committees takes pleasure in inviting you or your organisation to attend the first National Conference of the Democratic Left. Your participation in this conference will assist in elaborating the following: * A strategic perspective on the global and national crisis; * An Eco-socialist alternative for South Africa; * Building new movements to organise anti-capitalist struggles and against new oppressions in South African society; * Planning campaigns; * Deciding on a political form for the CDL. The Conference of the Democratic Left is planned for the 2-5 December 2010. The venue would be confirmed soon. The Gauteng province has been allocated 45 delegates to the national conference. All organisations are invited to send one delegate to the conference and would be required to contribute a minimum of R500 for their delegate to cover transport, accommodation and registration costs. If an organisation would like to send additional delegates they need to discuss this with the provincial facilitation committee and are also required to pay R500 per delegate. All individuals not affiliated with an organisation are also required to contribute R500 to conference costs.
