One cannot overemphasize the fact that, black students in general and African students in particular still face an enomous tak of education differentiation. What Cde Vavi has echoed in his speech cannot be more clearer in the university environments where university managements, executives and council's continue to be dominated by whites and remain completely untransformed. This clearly transcends to other levels of the university environments, i.e. admissions for black students predominatly being in certain faculties meanwhile others are 'reserved' for their white counterparts, funding of faculty activities (research and support) squed towards whites dominated faculties and marking patterns very much favouring whites students.
Truth is, though it is an ideal to arrive at a non-racial South Africa (SA). SA society remains racially polarised and still remains very much influenced by the consequences of the apartheid, from living, working and educational environments and this cannot be wished away. However, these areas cannot be left to chance to transform themselves as there cannot be natural transformation but rather through a deliberate intervention to transform society to reflect the new value systems. Even that, cannot happen in a vacuum, it therefore needs a deliberate, co-ordinated systematic efforts to favour black students in general and african students in particular, from funding, support, marking system and access. Absence of these efforts will only mean, black students will continue languishing in desperation and at mercy of white academics and whites favouring university policies and that will be catestrophic for the working class of SA.
