Press Statement – For Immediate release Towards a strong ANC to dislodge Zille and the DA in Municipal Elections As we start the New Year, the SACP converged in Khayelitsha to reflect on the past year, recent developments and the state of the alliance in the Metro. There are many disturbing tendencies that the SACP has identified and therefore will confront and crush. As the vanguard of the working class and the poor we firmly believe that the time for the masses of our people, the workers and the poor to rise and reject the anti-poor government of the Democratic Alliance in the Cape Metro and the Western Cape has come. In the past few years the DA has nakedly exposed loyalty to the interests of the White bourgeois class at the expense of the working class. The City of Cape Town has been a site of continuous service delivery protests over the past four years since the DA took over through a coalition against the ANC, but we are aware that the media does not report about those issues. Zille continued to ignore the genuine needs of poor people particularly Africans and Coloureds for better quality services to which the ANC government committed itself. There are numerous areas including Kraaifontein, Khayelitsha, Phillipi, Du Noon,Hout Bay and many other areas. The DA has continued to direct public resources to maintaining White middle class privileges. The DA exposed its disrespect for human rights and the dignity of our people in the saga about uncovered toilets provided to the residents of Makhaza. In this regard the Human Rights Commission found that the DA violated the human rights and dignity of the residents of Makhaza which is an indictment not only to the DA but also its voters. Further, the DA used brutal force against innocent and unarmed civilians in Hangberg near Houtbay instead of constructive engagement to find sustainable solution to the housing problem. This exposes the fascist character of the DA of using excessive force instead of peaceful conflict settlements. Recently the DA showed its ugly, inhumane nature by ignoring the plight of the people of Pholile Park in Lwandle near Strand who fell victim to irresponsible company that illegally dumped rotten food in the community. None of the political leadership of the DA in the Metro and in the Province showed any care and empathy to residents who suffered immeasurably from consuming that rotten food. This is tantamount to mass killing and collective punishment which is synonymous with Nazi Germany. For the first time this year the klopse (coons) were not allowed to celebrate their annual festival of the Cape Malay people which is a symbol of the unity of the Coloured people in the metro particularly. History will judge Helen Zille and her stogie, Dan Plato, very harshly for these evil deeds against poor and defenceless people. The SACP will continue to campaign against the actions of the DA that violate the rights and human dignity of the poorest of the poor. We will work with structures of civil society in order to restore the dignity of all our peoples. We will oppose the tyranny of the demonic Helen Zille and Dan Plato. Restoration of the ANC to Power The ANC has won overwhelming support in the recent national general elections with a clear mandate to liberate our people from joblessness, poverty, illiteracy, the scourge of crime and corruption. It is clear that the DA is obsessed with undermining that mandate. It is against that background that the SACP wants to ensure that the ANC led Alliance emerges victorious in the up-coming local government elections. It is important that the priorities of the ANC led government are implemented without interruption in all corners of the country. It is therefore important that we dislodge the DA in order to intensify the provision of basic services and a decent livelihood to our people. It is clear that in order to dislodge the DA and advance the National Democratic Revolution to liberate our people from poverty, class and racial inequality; we must strengthen the ANC and the Alliance. In this context it is important to recognize that the ANC must be rooted amongst the people. We must build a campaigning ANC in the Dullah Omar Region. We have to root-out the culture of factionalism, gate-keeping, anti-communist, anti-ANC led alliance and patronage and entrench a culture of service to the people. The structures must embrace this culture of selfless service to the people. The leadership must reflect the class forces within the Alliance. The leadership must not be dominated by comrades with business interests at the expense of the working class. In fact we are not apologetic we have an interest, it is the change of heart within the body politics of the ANC in the metro and the Province. We will be out in full force to defend the character of our movement. There is a need to strengthen trade union participation in the metro in order to ensure that the hegemony of the ANC in all sectors is maintained. The tendency by many comrades to harbour anti-communist sentiments is not constructive and ahistorical and therefore must not find resonance in the up-coming regional congress. The up-coming congress must focus on entrenching the ANC strength and defeating the DA and not on leadership strife. The SACP wishes to appeal to members of the ANC to recognize the need to ensure a strong united ANC and Alliance.
