The open letter by Trevor Manuel, if it was meant to reaffirm the confidence of the coloureds in the ANC and in particular the coloureds in the Western Cape, it is a job well done to use the same tactic that media and big businesses had used to try to lure the coloured voters away from the ANC. But if it was not, it's the matter that the ANC needs to attend to and address as soon as possible.
I believe that this time is very crucial (towards local government elections) we must be seen to be rallying behind ANC which does not have any room for racism. The same applies for the ANCYL which launch its own response fraught with labelling and thus exacerbates this debate unnecessarily. Why can't the ANCYL wait for the NEC meeting of the ANC and thus use that platform to call order on Manuel? Organisations are built and made by people; and people have heart soul and blood. Launching a response such as that of the ANCYL will not help heal the rift caused by the matter under consideration but will simply lead to further paralyses.
