*CWU REGARDS SAPO RELOCATION AS LUNACY* *18 March 2011*
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is saddened by the level of disregard displayed by SAPO Management through their HR Executive Manager. All that CWU is demanding is consistency in relation to Human Resource matters that may negatively affect our members and workers in general. In the past, CWU and SAPO management agreed that they cannot undermine the implication of relocations on workers in relation to financial; safety and security matters, hence the compensation/allowances; transport and other interventions were agreed upon with regard to workers now working at Durmail, Witspos, and JMIC etc. CWU therefore calls upon SAPO management to be consistent and engage with a view to ensuring that workers’ rights are not trampled upon. We want to warn SAPO management that any threats on our members will not be taken lightly and CWU will do everything necessary to defend its members. CWU is calling for an investigation around the move of SAPO Head Quarters (HQ) Pretoria to ECO Park in Centurion. The investigation should uncover why SAPO Management is going to pay 3million rental on a monthly basis, while they owned the old building. SAPO management is talking about cost saving but they move from a building they own to a new expensive building which they’ll rent, which defies logic. The question remains who is benefiting from this process because workers are worse off. The investigation should look at the following: were procurement processes followed, was there consultation with the Union. To add salt to injury, before the rental agreement was signed, the company wants to implement section 197 of the LRA and wants to use a white company to replace workers in the canteen. CWU calls upon the Minister of Communications to set up this investigation as we will not as a Union sit and watch. We have also sent a correspondence to the public protector for an investigation. *Enough is enough!* *Contact:* *Matankana Mothapo, National Spokesperson - 0827590900* -- You are subscribed.
