*CWU REMEMBERS Cde CHRIS HANI AND LET’S DO IT FOR HIM * * *
*08 April 2011* The Communication Workers Union (CWU) remembers one of the fascinating leaders, a charismatic leader of the vanguard, a Chief of Staff of Umkhoto We Sizwe (The Spear of the Nation), a leader of the ANC and former General Secretary of the SACP, Cde Martin Thembisile (Chris) Hani. Chris Hani was killed by an extreme right winger in 1993-April outside his house in Dawn Park, Ekurhuleni Region, and on Sunday 10 it will be his 18 years anniversary commemoration. CWU will always remember this leader as a unifier, who would not allow leaders of the movement to behave in a manner that will be anti communist and alien to the movement in general. Chris Hani was one of those who in terms of their background suffered the worst extremes of apartheid. Belonging to the rural area where the majority of the working people spent their time in compounds, in hostels away from their family like him, as a gallant leader he decided to liberate the Africans in general and Blacks in particular to enjoy the fruits of freedom today. CWU recognises that Chris Hani’s pragmatism and ideology was informed by the suffering of black workers, extreme forms of exploitation, slave wages, and lack of trade union rights. If Chris Hani was still alive and saw how ruthless capitalists are retrenching workers, he would be in the fore front in fighting them until the last drop of his blood. CWU recognises Chris Hani as one of the valuable Jewels of the Mass Democratic Movement and we must not disappoint him in these coming local government elections. *Let’s Do it for Chris.* *Contact:* *Matankana Mothapo, National Spokesperson - 0827590900* -- You are subscribed.
