Cde Mafika, Thanks for the statement. The fact that you will be watching this case with interest shows good leadership from your side. Please monitor the case to the core.
I would also like to commend the ICD for their swift action in this regard. A very strong message has to be sent this police and the other hand I feel the satate must be sued since it did nit provide proper training to this men and women who majority of them are working class themselves and have no decent houses ans services. The state must provide proper protective clothing, equipments and weapons. France has got the most violent protesters and you will never see police using bullet guns. They use water and teargas and the same should apply in SA. cde lerato On 4/17/11, Mafika Damane Mndebele <[email protected]> wrote: > ** > *YCL welcomes ICD arrest Six Policeman for the murder of Andries Tatane* > 17 April 2011 > > The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] welcomes the arrest > last night of six policemen who were involved in the physical abuse and > murder of service delivery protestor, Andries Tatane, based on the > investigations by the Independent Complaints Directorate and the help of > eyewitnesses. > > This swift arrest which was announced this morning by the head of the ICD > and the appearance of the six in court tomorrow, 18 April 2011, shows the > determination of the ICD to ensure that this case is ultimately resolved. > > The murder of Tatane has opened in the eyes of many South Africans the abuse > of power and authority by the police, and a call for sober discussions on > whether the ‘license to kill’ that has been the encouraged by seniors in our > police system has not turned our police into a violent and trigger happy > machinery. > > The YCL has in the past warned against ‘policy’ and remain unconvinced that > rhetoric aimed at encouraging police to use brutal force especially against > unarmed citizens remains an ideal towards fighting crime. > > As the YCL, we are also of the view that if legitimate demands, needs and > interests of our people are met through quality service delivery, people > like Tatane would not be in the streets and thus would not be shot dead. > > We will be monitoring this case with interest. > > Issued by YCL National Office > > For more information please contact Mafika Mndebele (YCL National > Spokesperson) > > Cell: 073 574 5953 > > Website: www.ycl.org.za > > Email: [email protected] > > 3rd Floor, COSATU House, 1-5 Leyds Street, Braamfontein > > -- > You are subscribed.
