YCLSA Statement on International Children day The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] today joins the international community in celebrating the International Children day. As we do so we pledge to take issues that affect children in our country and the world with special interest in eradicating poverty and providing socio-economic support to child-headed families in rural and semi rural areas. We further pledge to popularise this Day (1 June) as part our international program to support all communist orientated initiatives since the commemoration of this Day was initiated and restricted to communist countries since 1925.
While commending the recognition of this Day by neoliberal international groups in the form of G8 and others we would like to dispel the hypocrisy that they display in the world arena given their lack of practical commitment in eradicating poverty in Africa. We dispel their inconsistent position on the role and unilateral arrogance demonstrated by the United States of America on issues of global warming and causes of climate change due to its protection of industries whose emissions affect the environment. It is our view that this Day in itself reveals the significance of the role that the children of this generation will play in building a better world. Henceforth, we must heighten our struggle against capitalist industrialisation which prioritises super-profits at the peril of our environment for future generations.
