Media Statement 14th June 2011 Workers paint the City of Roses with red colour! POPCRU has received a warm welcome at the city to host the centenary of the African National Congress in 2012. A message delivered from government reiterated acceleration on the implementation of five priorities of government, including fight crime and corruption. It was amplified that POPCRU organizing within the Criminal Justice must lead that role. A powerful message was delivered by the President of POPCRU,Cde Zizamele Cebekhulu, who spoke in the presence of over 900 delegates, Leadership from Affiliates of COSATU,Government Ministers, Municipal Officials, National and International Guests that “..there is power of knowledge in this august venue, with excitement of knowing that momentous decisions about the future of our political course is about to be paved”. He further said that “POPCRU is in safe hands, with strong financial controls in place “in response to the ill-conceived attacks that were orchestrated to plough doubt on members prior to the National Congress. A tribute to all members who were in the line of duty and/or off-duty was delivered and a calling to campaign vigorously with SAPS will be pursued, to uproot the undermining of the right to life, including fighting police brutality. And further urged delegates to deliberate extensively on how to improve the living and working conditions of the general membership in particular and workers in general. The Congress had an opportunity to be addressed by the SACP General Secretary, Cde Blade Nzimande, who called for a permanent door to door to our workplaces, villages, farms, towns, cities and everywhere we find workers to improve the lives of South Africans. And a Gala Dinner will be addressed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training,Dr.Blade Nzimande. The congress will finalize its business of the 16th June 2011 with Declaration and announcement of Election Results.
