WITH OR WITHOUT MALEMA WE ARE DETERMINED TO ACHIEVE ECONOMICAL FREEDOM IN OUR
LIFETIME.
The ANC officials decided to charge comrade Julius Malema and comrade Floyd
including the other officials of the ANCYL and the decision was also reaffirmed
by the NEC of the ANC. The issue has sparked debate and division amongst
members, the leagues of the ANC, MDM structure and the society in general with
different views in terms of what propagated the charges. Some think it was
caused by the ANCYL call for Nationalisation of mines, we all know that the
debate around Nationalisation has been obscured by the succession battle from
the first day because it was attached with names of people who is/ are suppose
to lead the programme in the ANC without themselves publicly pronouncing
themselves in favour of nationalisation and those who differed with the view or
approach of the ANCYL were insulted instead of engagement.
We all agree that economic freedom in our life time is paramount to liberate
the majority of South African from the bondage of poverty, especially the youth
and the Africans in particular. The Freedom charter does agitate for the
redistribution of the wealth of the country, the 1990 ANC POLICY GUIDELINES FOR
A DEMOCRATIC SOUTH AFRICA does mention the issue of nationalisation and the
expropriation of land, the 52nd conference raised frustration around the issue
distribution of wealth and land and the conference reaffirmed the commitment of
the ANC to an intervening developmental state. Whether Nationalisation of mines
or an intervening developmental state is adopted, we are in agreement that a
new economical order is needed to address the economical imbalances and
poverty. Therefore the assertion by some leaders of the ANCYL that the charges
are informed by their call for nationalisation is unfounded, we need to
separate the two issues so that we do not
lose focus on our mission for economical freedom in our life time, discipline
is paramount for any institution to achieve its goals and the ANC is not an
exception.
WHETHER A DISCIPLINARY PROCESS OR A POLITICAL SOLUTION?
Some leaders of the ANCYL have called for a political solution instead of
disciplinary process citing that all this charges were originating from the
ANCYL views, or the ANC must charge all of them (members of the ANCYL). Firstly
the ANCYL is not in trial or facing charges, secondly when we join the ANC; we
join the ANC as individuals and voluntary not as a mob. Thirdly these comrades
were charged as members of the ANC not as members of the ANCYL. Fourthly the
ANCYL has apologised, meaning that they accepted the transgression of the ANC
constitution.
The ANC National Disciplinary Committee would like to confirm that the African
National Congress, through its National Officials, served charges this morning
on two of its members, namely Comrade Julius Malema, who is also the President
of the ANC Youth League and as well as Comrade Floyd Shivambu. Both Comrade
Julius Malema and Comrade Floyd Shivambu have been charged with various
violations of the ANC Constitution, including bringing the ANC into disrepute
through his utterances and statements on Botswana and sowing divisions in the
ranks of the African National Congress.
Comrade Julius Malema addressing the ANCYL provincial council in Mpumalanga
said people must respect democratic centralism and people must be lead. The ANC
leadership has spoken on the issue of succession debate and the leadership in
general, and urged all members of the ANC to refrain from discussing leadership
because it causes division to the organisation; we must all wait until the
issue is opened for branches of the ANC to discuss and nominate the leadership.
The ANC in Limpopo urged members of the ANC to refrain from any succession
debate; but the president of the ANCYL, a member of the ANC NEC and NWC
addressing the youth leagues Peter Mokaba rally in Vhembe district said Cassel
Mathale for second term as chairperson; Namane Dickson Masemola should retain
his position as the deputy provincial chairperson and Soviet Lekganyane must
replace ANC provincial secretary Joe Maswanganyi in the next ANC provincial
elective conference. He also called for
the leagues to support a president who supports the league’s call for the
nationalisation of mines. Is that not causing division amongst members of the
ANC? Is there  any clause in the constitution which gives special treatment to
individuals or which talks of political solution? Should we allow the
leadership of the ANC to be pronounced in a rally than to be nominated by
branches?
After the June ANCYL national elective congress which elected comrade Julius
for a second term unopposed; branches of the ANCYL and the REC of the Ehlanzeni
region in Mpumalanga were disbanded for putting the organisation into disrepute
and it is said some members of the PEC are still going to face disciplinary
process for their conduct during the PGC and the national conference. The REC
claimed that it was disbanded because did not support comrade Julius for second
term and the claims were rubbished by the ANCYL PEC and the NEC of the ANCYL.
They said misconduct will never be tolerated in the organisation and people
must take responsibility for their acts, when the national secretary of the
youth league disbanded the region and its branches said the NEC as the highest
decision making body in between congresses has taken a decision, therefore
there is no discussion; members must respect democratic centralism, discipline
will be enforced and told them
that some are going face the disciplinary action and members must wait for the
processes as per the constitution of the ANCYL and indeed this young people
respected the decision and are still waiting for the processes to be finished.
Should this region ask for a POLITICAL SOLUTION? Should all the comrades who
were suspended in the ANCYL under the leadership of Julius be given a hearing
for a political solution?
The programme for economical freedom in our lifetime is the resolution of the
ANCYL and we are determined to achieve it with or without Malema because we are
an organisation, a collective of leadership not representing individual ideas.
Let us all respect democratic centralism, respect the processes of the
constitution as prescribed in the ANC constitution than to pre-empt and
speculate on the outcome. Let us remember to apply dialectics at the expense of
materialism; the vanguard will be bound to commit mistakes.
