![]() Subdued Malema addresses media The normally strident youth leader appeared subdued before facing the African National Congress’s disciplinary committee tomorrow The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema says he is not nervous appearing before the African National Congress’s (ANC) disciplinary committee tomorrow at the party’s headquarters at Luthuli house. Speaking to the media in Johannesburg today, he appeared subdued as he discussed the charges against him. Malema is being accused of bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing divisions after months of public statements challenging leadership decisions. Also facing charges are league spokesman Floyd Shivambu, its deputy president Ronald Lamola, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and his deputy Kenetswe Mosenogi, as well as treasurer general Pule Mabe. Malema recently said the ANCYL would send a team to Botswana to consolidate local opposition parties and help bring about regime change, as it believed the government there was "in full co-operation with imperialists" and was undermining the "African agenda". The ANCYL was publicly rebuked by the ANC for this and then apologised. Addressing journalists at Luthuli House, Malema says he was not going to the disciplinary hearing panicking. "It does not matter the consequences, I go for what I believe in and I give it all. I have never sold my soul to a business individual or to a political leadership. I have never seeked favours. The disciplinary committee of the ANC is not the end of the road, whatever the outcome of the ANC’s disciplinary committee, the political leadership will still have to take a political decision," he said. But he said that he has serious confidence in the leadership and processes of the ANC. Malema said that even if he can be expelled from the party, the influence of the ANCYL is not about an individual. "It is about the organisation. Even if we are not there tomorrow, what will make me happy is to see the ANCYL there. The Youth League must be in the conference of the ANC in December 2012 not Julius. If the youth league is there, there is no reason to panic, because we know that the Youth League will continue to influence decisions in favour of the young people," he said.
