![]() Killing of KZN ANC leaders slammed KwaZulu-Natal is now like Mpumalanga when it comes to killing of ANC leaders, the SACP's KZN provincial leader said on Tuesday. “We are now like Mpumalanga where ANC leaders are killed,” SA Communist Party (SACP) KwaZulu-Natal chairman James Nxumalo said. He was addressing ANC members outside the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court during the appearance of Xolani Zulu, accused of killing ANC regional leader Sbu Sibiya. “We don’t know whether our leaders are killed because of money or not. We want this to stop and people who do it have no place in the ANC.” ANC councillor Wiseman Mshibe was shot dead at his Montclair, Durban home on March 1. A number of ANC leaders had been killed in the past few years in Mpumalanga, where a hit list reportedly existed for ANC leaders in the province. ANC KwaZulu-Natal secretary Sihle Zikalala on Tuesday urged the State not to grant Zulu bail. He called on ANC members outside court to stop speculating on who killed Sibiya, saying it would create unnecessary tensions. “Let's allow the police to do their job.” Cosatu provincial secretary Zet Luzipo said: “We believe that more people were involved and they should be arrested. We also believe that Zulu should not be given bail.” Cosatu feared Zulu may be killed if released on bail. The case was postponed on Tuesday because Zulu's lawyer would no longer represent him. State prosecutor Noxolo Dube said: “His lawyer has withdrawn due to financial problems. He (the accused) has instructed another lawyer.” Zulu told the court he was not prepared to apply for bail because he was still briefing his new lawyer. The new lawyer was not in court on Tuesday and would begin representing Zulu at his next court appearance on September 29. Zulu was escorted by police officers when he appeared in court on Tuesday. Scores of ANC members attended, wearing t-shirts bearing images of Sibiya's face. Zulu was arrested in Durban's Yellowwood Park two weeks ago. Zamani Sikhakhane, another suspect in the Sibiya murder, was killed in a shoot-out during a police raid on a house in Chatsworth, Durban. Sikhakhane's landlord, Bongani Tembe, and policeman Warrant Officer Rakesh Maharaj were also killed. Sibiya was shot dead outside his home in Inanda outside Durban in July. The police recently offered a R50 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Sibiya's killers. – Sapa From: http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/kwazulu-natal/killing-of-kzn-anc-leaders-slammed-1.1141287 You are subscribed.
