*SACSA welcomes Minister Dr. Blade Nzimande’s speech *The South African College Student Association (SACSA) would like to welcome the speech of the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande on the introduction of the Further Education and Training Colleges Bill.
The bill came at the most appropriate time when college principals created colleges as their little castle and those SRC and staff members that worship them are given the slice and declared dudes in their own regions. SACSA intends to go for policy conference and make its input to the bill so that when it’s passed into an act, it reflects the correct position of governance in the sector.
The announcement by the minister that majority of employees will be re-employed by the state provide stability and the workforce. The COSATU strike that lasted for more than five week did not provide the sector with good results. It would also create a stable situation where Principal will be subjected to manage the college and leave the governance to College Council.
SACSA waited for this bill as part of the tool to establish Broad Transfomation Forum in the FET Colleges. The implementation of Workplace Forum will create a stable union and broader political workplace situation.
