MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR SACCAWU 10TH NATIONAL CONGRESS
Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union wishes to offer our revolutionary support
for the convening of SACCAWU 10th National Congress at St Georges Hotel, Irene
COSATU 05th Central Executive Committee recently held in Midrand this year
centred the importance of reengineering the Living Wage Campaign and SACCAWU
has played a significant role during the Wal-Mart acquisition of Massmart, by
campaigning for job security and advancement of the Decent Job Agenda.
A Living Wage for us as Workers simply implies having a wage sufficient to
cover a specific quality and quantity of housing, food, utilities, transport,
health care and recreation, but the wages that many Workers earn have never
brought the richness of the Labour Power, we posses as workers.
And this must stop!
POPCRU reiterates what COSATU has eloquently said that, “In no other sectors,
there is the gulf between the living standards of the workers and their
employers. And we support the review of the Tribunal’s ruling on the basis
that,“the Wal-Mart acquisition of Massmart can have a potentially devastating
effect on local jobs and the transaction should be sent back to the Competition
Tribunal for a proper consideration and more effective conditions to be
imposed”.
POPCRU adjures all Delegates to deliberate on the importance of building
strong, vibrant Worker Formations to squeeze the parasitic demagoguery of
capitalist greedy bosses, who continue to ‘earn unbelievable R627.53 millions
in salaries, perks and share options’, whilst workers continue to earn crumbs.
And we await the outcomes!
Forward with the Living Wage Campaign!
Down with Wal-Mart Deal!
Down with Labour Broking!
Forward with the Unity of the Working Class!
