*Young communists warn ANCYL over Nzimande insults* *SAPA, The Times, Johannesburg, 18 October 2011*The Young Communist League sent a warning to the national leadership of the ANC Youth League on Tuesday and accused it of being "obsessed" with SACP secretary general Blade Nzimande.
"Our warning to the already discredited ANCYL leadership is that should they continue to insult and undermine the party leadership, they will find themselves at war with the Young Communist League," national spokesman Mafika Mndebele said in a statement.
"We shall continue to strive for the unity of the Progressive Youth Alliance, but not at the expense of the proletariat party."
On Monday, Nzimande urged members of the ANC Youth League not to participate in planned marches for economic freedom as they would "not make a difference" to their lives.
He said a march planned by the league's leadership was being used to undermine the authority of the ANC and the government.
The ANCYL, in turn, issued a statement saying Nzimande was raising "false alarms".
"The ANC Youth League is nevertheless not concerned by the ranting of Mr Nzimande because the SACP [SA Communist Party] he speaks on behalf of does not have political, ideological and mass power in South Africa," ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said in a statement.
The Economic Freedom Youth Mass Action is to be held on October 27 and 28 at Beyers Naude Square in central Johannesburg, the Chamber of Mines in Hollard Street in Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandton and at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where a night vigil is planned.
Mndebele said the YCL stood by Nzimande's statement and would not participate in the planned march.
"The scourge of unemployment and socioeconomic challenges that afflict young people and the better majority of the South African working class should not be taken for a ride by those whose political survival is hanging on the balance," he said.
The YCL in Gauteng described the ANCYL as the anti-Communist Party."We have come to accept that the national leadership of the youth under Mr Julius Malema, as president, has adopted an anti-Communist Party stance, insults against the party leadership and zigzagging for content," provincial general secretary Alex Mashilo said in a statement.
"The statement by the national leadership of the youth league seeks to isolate our party general secretary comrade Blade Nzimande and undermine the Communist Party."
Mashilo said the YCL would defend the SACP and its leadership against attacks and insults.
