The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] hosted a ‘Jobs for
Youth’ summit in 2010 which saw more than *200 delegates representing at
least 80 youth formations from across the country to discuss the crisis of
unemployment and poverty in our country*.

The historic Summit, which led to the President and government declaring
this year as the year of Jobs, was watershed in that it brought under one
roof organisations from all racial, political, social, religious and
ideological divide.

*The SUMMIT focused its discussions on the following topical themes*

ü  Education and Skills Development

ü  Economic Transformation

ü  Entrepreneurial and Cooperative Initiatives

The declaration of the Summit led to the establishment of *Jobs for Youth
Coalition* which has been instrumental in influencing policy on job creation
at NEDLAC level.

*This year, we are convening a follow up Summit to review the work done
since the last meeting and to develop a ‘Jobs for Youth action plan’.* The
aim of this Summit will be to influence both government and the private
sector on the programmes and policy interventions that need to be engaged in
order to realise jobs for youth.

*The SUMMIT will look into the following thematic discussions:*

ü  Education and Skills Development;

ü  Building Youth Cooperatives

ü  Green Economy and Climate Change

ü  Economic Transformation, Ownership and Control

ü   State of the Labour Market and Labour Market Reform

ü   Youth Wage Subsidy

ü   Social Wage

*In this regard, the SUMMIT will look into the major contributors and
possible sectors that can contribute into the economy such as:*

ü  Manufacturing and Construction;

ü  Tourism, Wholesale and Retail;

ü   Agriculture and Agro-processing;

ü   Public Sector;

ü   Mining and Energy; and

ü   Financial Sector

*The following key participants have been invited as speakers on our summit*

ü  President Jacob Zuma, President of the ANC and the Republic of South
Africa

ü  Minister Trevor Manuel, Minister in the Presidency

ü  Minister Pravin Gordhan,

ü   Dr. Blade Nzimande; Minister of Higher Education

ü  Minister, Suzan Shabangu, Minister of Minerals

ü   COSATU, President Sdumo Dlamini

ü  Comrade Frans Baleni, General Secretary of the NUM

ü  Minister Malusi Gigaba, Minister of Public Enterprise

ü   Minister Edna Molewa, Minister of Environmental Affairs

ü  ANC and the Republic of South Africa Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe
has been invited to give a closing address

More than 250 representatives from all youth formations in our country
amongst others: SAYC, NAFCOC DDG – DCOG, SANACO, NSF, SAGDA, Black Business
Council, BUSA, Chamber of Mines, NYDA, ANCYL, SASCO, COSAS, DA Youth, IFPYB,
Afroforum, will participate in the summit.

*The Summit is planned as follows*

*Date:               26 – 28 October 2011 *

*Time:              The Summit will start at 10h00 in the morning on the 26
th October *

*Venue:            Eskom Conference Centre, Midrand*

The Young Communist League of South Africa is conscious of the scourge of
unemployment and socio-economic challenges that afflict young people and the
better majority of the South African working class. In this regard we vow to
continue championing the interest of the working class youth.
