*CWU WELCOMES SABC DICISION TO BROADCAST ALL REMAINING AFCON GAMES LIVE*

The Communication Workers Union (CWU), an affiliate of Cosatu, and the
voice of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector workers
welcomes the decision to broadcast all the remaining AFCON games live – and
not so called “delayed live”.

We think it is correct for the SABC to listen to the plea of masses of our
people in rural and urban areas – many of whom pay their television
licences year in and year out.

CWU is inspired by the words of the newly appointed Group Chief Executive
Officer (GCEO) when she says “…for us as public broadcaster, it was
important to listen to our viewer’s needs, and try to accommodate them,
with our means. It is important to us that we strive to balance the diverse
wants and needs of the public and we are aware that this tournament goes
beyond soccer and is an important vehicle which unites people across the
continent.”

As a wise man once observed: "Football isn't a matter of life or death,
it's much more important than that.”
