The Leaderships of the Botswana Movement for Democracy, Botswana National front and the Botswana People's Party met at Woodpecker, Notwane on the 17th and 18th March 2012 for a Team Building exercise hosted by the Convenors of the Umbrella, Messrs Lebang Mpotokwane,Emang Maphanyane, Cosmos Moenga and Prince Dibeela. The facilitator of the Team Building exercise was Prof. John Diescho, Director and Head of the International Relations and Partnerships Directorate at the University of South Africa. Prof. Diescho is an author, political analyst, expert on issues of government and leadership.

The leaders of the parties were assisted by the conveners to appreciate the journey of the cooperation since 2011 to date at the commencement of the workshop. Then after, Prof. Diescho led the workshop on discussions focused on the following areas:

1. National goal setting and positive politics in a Democratic Society

2. Role of opposition in a Democratic Society as well as Pre- election Coalitions

3. Effective Leadership and attendant qualities for parties and the nation in the 21st Century

4. Preparing for elections (political platform/policies, positioning, preparation for governance, connecting with the people and mobilisation)

5. Rudiments on Coalition and Coalition Governments as well as comparative evaluation.

These discussions were seminal, and they assisted the contracting parties to confirm what is primary and what is secondary in the process of cooperation in order to ensure success. Participants were also able to respond to critical questions that needed to be dealt with in order to move forward. The participants further noted the need to reconvene and interrogate more issues under the leadership of Prof. Diescho. The Participants were also graced will devotions for self-reflection led by Rt. Rev. Dr. C.K. Moenga and Rev. Dr. Prince Dibeela who are also Convenors in the Umbrella Project.
