Both Comrades (Maria and Chemist) were fearless and brave young communists who died on their way to attend the funeral of the late Deputy National Secretary of the YCLSA – Mike Mokhutshane who was buried on 22 September 2012 in Sannieshof, North West province. Comrade Maria was a member of the YCLSA since 2004; she served the YCLSA in different capacities as Branch deputy secretary in 2005, as a member of the District Executive Committee in the Dr. George Mukhari district in Gauteng in 2006, and also as the district’s Deputy Chairperson in 2008. She later served as the Treasurer of the YCLSA in Gauteng province. At the time of her departure she was Head of Secretariat and Organising for the YCLSA in Gauteng province. She died as a loyal member of the YCLSA and the SACP. Comrade Chemist Khumalo, on the other hand, worked tirelessly for the media department of the South African Communist Party. A spectre is indeed haunting the Young Communist League of South Africa amid a very crucial point of our revolution and we are deeply saddened by the loss of our fellow young communists. The Chairperson of the YCLSA in the Free State (Eddie Lesenyeo) was also involved in a car accident also on his way to attend the funeral of Comrade Mokhutshane but sustained minor injuries and is under good medical supervision at his home in Welkom, Free State. As the YCLSA Free State we are concerned about the terrible state and poor condition of our roads and call on government, particularly the national Department of Transport, to improve our roads hence the continuous loss of lives by ordinary South Africans and YCLSA leaders. We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Mochaka and Khumalo families, comrades, and friends of both Comrade Maria and Chemist.
