YCLSA Gauteng Press Statement 20 November 2012
Statement on the continued demolition of houses The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the province of Gauteng is deeply concerned about the apartheid-style behaviour of the Gauteng Provincial Government, particularly the provincial housing department. In the same way as the colonial and apartheid regimes did, the department has renewed its pleasure to bulldoze houses following an interjection by a court interdict process. The latest victims are residents in Ennerdale, an area South of Johannesburg. The department alleges that land on which the houses are built was acquired illegally. As the YCLSA we are firmly opposed to corruption in whatever its manifestation, but we are equally opposed to brutality, regardless of who commits it and what the material basis is. By bulldozing houses the manner in which it does, allowing people only to remove cars if they have them from garages and then destroying the houses with everything in them is nothing else but an act of brutality by the department. As the YCLSA we would like to congratulate the South African Communist Party for taking leadership as the truest vanguard of our people. We are satisfied about the work that the Party is undertaking together with the affected communities, and the alliance partners Congress of South African Trade Unions and the South African National Civics Organisation. In our own right we are on the ground, together with the people seeking solutions what the next best move shall be. We have a hope that no sooner than later as led by the South African Communist Party we shall together with the people and the alliance partners find a revolutionary way forward. We condemn the silence of the national human settlement department on the demolitions of houses in Gauteng. This is an indication that, going forward that department may require a new leadership. We are calling on the Gauteng Department of Housing to stop brutalising our people and stop the demolitions now! We are calling law enforcement agencies to isolate the criminal elements that are causing havoc with the alleged illegal sales of land and bring them to book.
