*YCLSA Press Statement* July 2, 2013
*On the “Two DJ’s and a Lackey” Party* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] notes the announcement by Mr. Kenny T Kunene to join the so-called Economic Freedom Fighters. We also note, thankfully, that Mr. T Kunene is a changed man (and claims to have ditched porn and other things he deems suicidal to his political phoenix). His joining of the EFF was aptly summarized on SAFM this morning by his leader, Mr. Sello Malema, who said that “Mr. T Kunene is bringing a constituency of *iSikhothane *(who Mr. T Kunene has always insisted that he is the President thereof).” Every South African has the right to join or form any organization, be it a political party, *Mogodishano (Stokvel),* burial society or any form of gathering and assembly, and no matter what other people think of Mr. T Kunene, he too, enjoys this constitutional rights. We also note that this completes the coalition of “two DJ’s and a lackey” party, and we wish them well and bid them farewell. We however want to challenge Mr. T Kunene to name the people who have threatened his life or orchestrated an investigation by SARS just because he wrote a letter opposing President Jacob Zuma. The grievances that Mr. T Kunene raised in his open letter are not new, and have been responded to by the ANC (and some raised by the ANC itself), and therefore do not necessarily make him a hero or martyr. Even priests, Members of Parliament, DJ’s, socialites, journalists and even struggle heroes have raised these issues and none of them had their lives threatened or taxes investigated by SARS. We also wish to assure Mr. Kunene and the others within EFF that we are aware of his tactic of fear mongering through innuendo and insinuations. You do not form a political party just because your life has been threatened for having raised issues against the President, but you go to the police service, the Public Protector, the Human Rights Commission or any of the dozen institutions created to insulate our democratic rights as citizens. This is not a Banana (or Sushi Republic) where people are dealt with solely because they air their views—this is fortunately a democracy. For Mr. T Kunene and Mr. Malema to suggest that people are still in the ANC because of ‘fear’ of the President and due to their love for positions is ridiculous, and similar to the strategy deployed by COPE in the last elections (and recently by Agang) who promised to unveil “big names” in time (and are still waiting). That trick has reached its sell-by-date. You may, as the Xhosa’s say, spill the water because the chicken will not be coming. Just with the biblical donkey that Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the people only love the ANC and not the leaders who lead it at particular times. And just to remind Mr. S. Malema, just as you told Mr. Terror Lekota and Mr. Mbazima Shilowa when they started COPE that it is cold outside of the ANC, we should remind you that the temperature has not changed (and that it is still cold outside the ANC). The Alliance remains the only organization our people have pinned their hopes and will continue to invest their energy in attaining national, democratic, gender and economic freedom.
