The recent happenings in COSATU and allegations of fraud and other matters , seems to be the beginning of the end. I am afraid, but I see a weak COSATU and this is not directed to one person. The weaker COSATU means a weaker alliance and a weaker alliance means a weaker governance. The current divisions in the federation needs all affiliates to put aside their differences and put members at heart. We cannot undermine the cropping up of trade unions all over. We must ask ourselves, where did it all go wrong ?
In Eskom now, there is new union and not allied to COSATU. The current build projects - Kusile and Medupe , workers don't want to belong to either COSATU unions, but prefer the workers committee. The Marikana matter will take long to be resolved, unless we have a political solution. To the Party, under difficult situation the Party did survive and continue to advocate the issues of the working class and the poor. As the party we need to be more visible and lead the protests relevant to the current struggle, the recent Transnet march by the Party is a good thing and leadership of that branch must be applauded. We must continue to build the party and ensure NDR is achieved. To the ANC as the broad-church, we must influence it by becoming members of branches in the ward we reside in. We must go out and lobby support for the forth coming elections. In conclusion, the alliance is more important than ever before and we must have a broader perspective of challenges that we confront.
