Press Alert, 26 December 2013 Comrade Crosby Moni's Memorial, today Comrade Crosby Moni, who passed away on 22 December 2013, epitomised our alliance. He was a member of the ANC, previously serving in its Provincial Executive Committee and as Deputy Provincial Chairperson in Mpumalanga. He was an ANC Member of Parliament. He served in various capacities as a worker leader in the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and eventually he served as the union's Deputy President until 2009. Comrade Crosby laboured tirelessly for unorganised workers to be organised, and for organised workers to be united under the banner of COSATU. He was also active in the progressive civic movement and helped to build SANCO structures. A revolutionary, Cde Crosby Moni served in the ranks of the SACP since the reconstitution of the Party in the country after unbanning. In 2002 he was elected in our Central Committee. Re-elected in 2007 and 2012 respectively, he served in this capacity until he met his death. As a Member of Parliament, Cde Moni served on both the Portfolio Committee on Basic and on Higher Education, where he made a remarkable contribution to South African education.
