Good by-election results

The African National Congress welcomes the results of the by-elections
results held yesterday, 19 February 2014. 10 wards were contested across the
country in 6 different provinces namely the; KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo,
Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape, and the Western Cape.

As a result of the immense support enjoyed by the ANC from our people, the
African National Congress retained 4 of its previously held wards & won 2
wards which were previously held by the opposition. The African National
Congress thanks all our people who took time to vote in the by-elections
ensuring that we retain Ward 09 Lephalale in Limpopo, Ward 21 Greater Taung
in North West, Ward 02 Kgatelopele in Northern Cape, and Ward 35 City of
Cape Town in the Western Cape. This outcome once again sends the unambiguous
message of our people's unwavering support in the ANC as the only party with
the capacity, experience and commitment necessary to move South Africa
forward.

Indeed we are making significant inroads in areas previously held by the
opposition evidenced by, amongst others, our decisively overwhelming win in
Ward 48 in the Ethekwini Metro. The ANC was supported by 4000 voters in this
previously DA ward to DA's 600; yet another testament that our people are
realising from experience that voting for a party whose sole reason for
existence is to criticise the ANC but fails to deliver to their aspirations
is an exercise in futility. The African National Congress is humbled by the
support we have received in this area which led to this success; the first
step in further bettering the lives of the people of this community.

We are equally pleased the by-election victories in Saldanah Bay and
Mitchell's Plein in the Western Cape. Our increasing support in this
Province reaffirms our view that our quest to win back the province is on
track. The African National Congress sends its gratitude to the volunteers
and supporters of the ANC who worked tirelessly and selflessly in the
build-up to these by-elections. We are equally thankful to all voters across
the country who took their time out to cast their votes.

With only 76 days left before the 2014 General Elections on 7th May 2014,
the African National Congress calls on all those who have not yet registered
to vote, to jealously guard this hard-earned right to vote, by going to
their nearest municipal offices to register to vote.
