NUM and MIT to Celebrate Nelson Mandela's Day in Rustenburg

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Mineworkers Investment Trust
(MIT) will celebrate the Nelson Mandela's Day at Manamakgoteng village in
Rustenburg North West Province on Friday July 18, 2014.

NUM General Secretary Frans Baleni will deliver a keynote address during the
event. He will be joined by the alliance partners and members of the
BaKgatla tribe.

The MIT nominated Kgolagano Care Center as the needy center around
Rustenburg.

The founders of the center are Mr. and Mrs Mogobye who are also members of
the community. It became clear that after numerous assault and abuse cases
of grandmothers that there was a need to establish a center for them as
culprits walked freely in the community.

The center currently accommodates 20 people with the hope that this number
may increase in the future to cater for more.

The programme will start at 10h00 until 13h00.

The NUM and MIT joins a call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67
minutes of time to helping others, as a way to mark Nelson Mandela
International Day.

For 67 years, Nelson Mandela devoted his life to the service of humanity, as
a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, an international peacemaker
and the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa.

The NUM and MIT recognize Nelson Mandela's values and his dedication to the
service of humanity, in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations,
the promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender
equality and the rights of children and as well as the upliftment of poor
and underdeveloped communities.

Furthermore, the NUM Central Committee that was recently held at Birchwood
Conference Centre, expressed its grief on the passing on of NUM's
lifetime President, comrade Nelson Mandela including the death of its
former Deputy President comrade Crosby Moni who both passed on at the end
of 2013. May their souls rest in peace.

Members of the media are invited to attend and report.
