27 October 2014 SADTU Wishes the 2014 Matric Class Good Luck The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) sends its well wishes to the Grade 12 Class of 2014 as they sit for their final year examinations from today 27 October 2014. These matric examinations are the culmination of many years of grooming and preparation for both the learners and educators. We would like commend teachers for the good work done, under trying circumstances, to prepare the learners. We hope the results will yield more quality passes. We also want to register our concern over the fact that only half of the learners who entered Grade 1, 12 years ago are writing the Grade 12 examinations. This is an indictment on our education system. It is thus an irony that the Minister of Education is being commended for an increasing Matric pass rate and is not made to account for the high attrition rate. SADTU calls upon families and communities to support the Class of 2014 during this tough period. We hope for a 100% pass. However, we want to remind those that won't make it, they still have a chance to rewrite or opt for other institutions other than the Universities.
