Blade Accuses DA of Sabotage SACP says that the DA is governing the Western Cape in 'Apartheid Style' Itumeleng Mafisa, The New Age, Johannesburg, 7 January 2015 The battle lines over the soul of Cape Town have been drawn, with the SACP accusing the DA of bringing back apartheid to the Western Cape. SACP leader Blade Nzimande accused the DA of trying to sabotage the ANC's 103rd birthday celebrations in Cape Town this week. He said the DA was governing their stronghold province "apartheid style". Nzimande was speaking at the annual Joe Slovo commemoration in Soweto yesterday. Veering off from his prepared speech, Nzimande took time to vent his anger at the DA and its leaders. He said it was ridiculous that Western Cape officials wanted the ANC to provide tickets to 65000 supporters who would be attending the party's birthday rally on Saturday. Cape Town had also asked the ANC to pay a whopping R2.2m upfront for the use of the Cape Town Stadium. The city further asked the ruling party to get extra security to the tune of R110000. Nzimande also accused other political parties of using ANC icons like Nelson Mandela and Joe Slovo to condemn the leadership of the ANC and SACP. He reminded those attending the commemoration that Nelson Mandela was "not an angel" and was responsible for the formation of the MK and the commencement of the armed struggle against apartheid. "We use this opportunity to tell our own history. The two people who were asked to form MK were comrades Nelson Mandela and Joe Slovo, the two of them. "We must remind ourselves that our detractors and some renegades they turn to want to celebrate the lives of some of our leaders not to learn from them, but to condemn the leadership of our movement. We must not be distracted by renegades," Nzimande said. His anger over the DA's "unfair" treatment of the ANC was equally shared by the Gauteng SACP provincial chairperson, Joe Mpisi, who said that the ANC should also start making life difficult for the DA, since they were doing the same to the ANC.
