COSATU Special CEC in session

The COSATU Special CEC has been in session since yesterday.

Contrary to some newspaper reports, all affiliates are present, with only
three exceptions.

The major exception is the Food and Allied Workers' Union (FAWU). FAWU's
standing in terms of the COSATU Constitution is in question. The COSATU
Constitution in terms of composition of meetings says: 'each affiliate in
good standing with the Federation may participate in meetings'.

The other two absent Unions are the South African Football Players Union
(SAFPU), and the South African State and Allied Workers Union (SASAWU).
These two are small, vulnerable unions that have both, for many years, been,
and continue to be, sheltered tenants of COSATU in COSATU House.

Based on COSATU's statement:

Additional factual material is from the Communist University.
