Preparations towards ANCWL National Conference

Last week, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National
Congress Women's League (ANCWL) met at St. George's Hotel, Irene, Tshwane in
a special meeting to consider reports and preparations towards the convening
of the organisation's National Conference. Having received reports from the
National Officials and the National Working Committee, the NEC has satisfied
itself of the work done and the interventions undertaken to ensure full
preparedness for this conference. Consequently the NEC has set a date for
the 6th National Conference being the 5th to the 8th August 2015.

Conference will be held in the Gauteng Province and is expected to be
attended by 3000 delegates, 2750 of these will be voting delegates with a
minimum of 90% of them being drawn from branches, elected at properly
constituted BGMs in accordance to Rule 14.4.1. of the Constitution of the
ANC Women's League. The number of delegates per branch shall be in
proportion to the branch's membership in good standing. The remainder of
the 10% of the voting delegates at the conference shall be allocated to the
NEC from among the PECs and NEC. Civil society, academia and business are
expected to make up the balance of delegates to Conference.

A National Preparatory Committee, presided over by the Secretary General's
Office with representation from provinces, has been established and tasked
with the management and oversight of logistics towards the National
Conference and is holding ongoing meetings towards at the ANC's
Headquarters, Chief Albert Luthuli House.

It is the view of the ANC Women's League that our preparations towards
National Conference on track. All nine provinces have held successful
consolidating Provincial General Councils and we are confident our
structures continue to engage on the necessary policies, programmes and
resolutions to be advanced toward the realisation of the Conference theme
