SATAWU Statement, 16 July 2015

SATAWU reacts to PRASA firing CEO Lucky Montana

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) demands that
the PRASA board re-instate Lucky Montana immediately as CEO.

SATAWU also demands that the Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters dismisses
the PRASA Board with immediate effect. We believe the decision by the
irregular board to fire CEO Lucky Montana is illegal. We have said time
again that the PRASA board was appointed illegally. Therefore it gives to
reason that any decision made by this board is illegal.

We call on Minister Peters to dissolve this board that is destroying a
functioning state-owned entity. It seems that the minister and her cronies
in the board are running PRASA like their personal spaza shop. They are
adamant on driving the only working South African enterprise into the
ground.

Such disruptions within PRASA will affect our members greatly. It is in the
best interest of our members that such decisions aren't made willy-nilly.
There must be proper checks and processes. These illegal decisions can
greatly damage the reputation of the organization.

SATAWU is not in support of perpetual and unlimited terms of office but
where there is value added by a leader that must be harnessed and
appreciated especially in relation to how the country's SOC's are struggling
at leadership level. We think Lucky Montana has done very well and certainly
must be reinstated.
