New Age2.png Tension in the NUMSA camp Itumeleng Mafisa, The New Age, Johannesburg, 29 July 2015 There are signs that NUMSA's "Nine Plus" alliance against COSATU may be unravelling after disagreements with the Food and Allied Workers Unions (FAWU). An unfulfilled promise of R1m is believed to be at the centre of the disagreement. NUMSA and FAWU.jpg This comes after the failure by expelled COSATU union NUMSA to deliver on the promised R1m donation by the union's general secretary, Irvin Jim, according to some sources. FAWU general secretary Katishi Masemola confirmed there were disagreements but declined to say whether money had played a part. "NUMSA has pledged R1m towards organising workers but it has still not come. We never requested the money," he said. Masemola said FAWU was not anti-ANC nor did it support NUMSA's planned formation of a new union federation. "We are not even loyal to Zwelinzima Vavi as an individual. We are loyal to the unity of workers." Masemola admitted the union had financial constraints but that the union had managed to repay its debt to COSATU. NUMSA spokesperson Castro Ngobese said the union's R1m pledge to FAWU had been promised in 2012 during the farm workers strike.
