Morning Star.png Spain: Venezuela's Maduro calls Rajoy a "hit man", Spain complains The Morning Star, London, 29 July 2015 The Spanish foreign ministry summoned the Venezuelan ambassador on Monday in protest over President Nicolas Maduro's criticism of his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy. On Sunday Mr Maduro called Mr Rajoy a "hitman" in comments on the European Union's bullying of Greece's left-wing Syriza government over its debt crisis. The ministry expressed its "dislike and rejection of the unacceptable insults made once again" by Mr Maduro. The ambassador was summoned in April for similar reasons and Spain later temporarily recalled its ambassador to Venezuela. Mr Maduro has described the EU's treatment of Greece as "a war to stop the Greek people from taking those steps towards freedom and independence, to stop Europe from waking from its slumber, from its domination." National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello added: "Greece is a spark in the forest: the other peoples of the world will start talking with the same voice, with a dignified and courageous voice."
