Morning Star.png Kurds Find Mass Graves in Liberated City Sinjar The Morning Star, London, 16 November 2015 Kurdish militias said yesterday they had uncovered two mass graves near the city of Sinjar, liberated from Islamic State (Isis) last week. The first grave uncovered west of the town's centre contained 78 elderly women's bodies, said Sinjar Director of Intelligence Qasim Samir. The second, discovered 10 miles west of the city, contained the bodies of 50 to 60 men, women and children, he said. A Kurdish peshmerga militia officer confirmed the grisly find. Mr Samir said that details were vague on the second grave as the area around it was thought to be booby-trapped with explosives, a typical Isis tactic to delay the recapture of territory. "These people (in the mass graves) were shot and buried during the Daesh invasion last year," Mr Samir said, using an Arabic acronym for Isis. Sinjar was taken by Isis in August 2014 following the earlier fall of Mosul.
