Israel Bombards 'Hamas Sites' In Gaza

Israel bombed the besieged Gaza strip yesterday, damaging infrastructure
belonging to Hamas's military wing.

Palestinian news agency Ma'an quoted local residents who said that the air
raids had hit two sites in the west of Gaza City used as training grounds by
the al-Qassam Brigades.

The bombings caused damage to neighbouring homes.

Israeli forces also bombed an area known as "Brigade 13," used by al-Qassam,
in the central Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military confirmed that it had carried out the raids, saying
that a rocket fired from Gaza had exploded near the containment fence around
the strip.

An army spokesman said Israel held the Hamas government responsible for "any
act of terror" from Gaza.

Last month, an Israeli air raid killed a pregnant Palestinian woman and her
two-year-old daughter in their home.

Meanwhile, Hamas condemned rumours that the Palestinian Authority in the
West Bank had come to an agreement with Egypt to reopen the Rafah border
crossing.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri called the plan a "unilateral arrangement"
that "ignored the reality on the ground" and implied that the party would
oppose any agreements made without its input.

Clashes between young Palestinian and Israeli troops broke out in East
Jerusalem yesterday during a commemoration for two men killed last year.

And on Tuesday night, troops shot dead Palestinian Muhammad Munir Hassan
Saleh during armed clashes north of Ramallah in which two others were
wounded.

Mr Saleh was reportedly left bleeding on the ground for over an hour without
being treated by medics.
