East Coast Radio.png SADTU Threatens Marking Boycott over ANA Anelisa Kubheka, East Coast Radio, Durban, 2 December 2015 SADTU is threatening to pull its members from matric marking centres if the Department of Education insists on the Annual National Assessments being administered by schools this week. The department says it has spent R2-million printing the question papers with schools having been given until Friday to administer the tests. But this is not the case in most schools in KwaZulu-Natal as teacher union's SADTU, NATU and NAPTOSA are standing their ground on boycotting the ANAs. There has been an ongoing tussle between the department and the unions over the assessments. The unions argue that the ANAs no longer serve its purpose and should be scrapped. SADTU's Nomarashiya Caluza maintains that teachers will not administer the tests. ''The department has no interest in education when it comes to ANA. They want to serve the interest of the service providers. Everything with ANA is about making profits,'' he said. NATU spokesperson Allen Thompson says parents should keep their home: ''Parents must relax because ANA does not have any impact on their children's future. Most of the teachers are preparing for 2016. ''The focus now, must be on making sure that when we start next year we have a super start,'' he said.
