Morning Star.png South Africa: Appeal Judge Rules Pistorius Shots Added Up To Murder The Morning Star, London, 4 December 2015 South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was found guilty yesterday of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The judgment by Justice Lorimer Eric Leach of the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned Mr Pistorius's earlier manslaughter conviction for the crime. "The accused ought to have been found guilty of murder on the basis that he had fired the fatal shots with criminal intent," Justice Leach told the court, where Ms Steenkamp's mother was sitting. Mr Pistorius shot Ms Steenkamp through the locked toilet door of their home in the small hours of Valentine's Day 2013. He claimed at his trial that he had thought a burglar was behind the door, but the prosecution argued that he had killed his lover during an argument. The athlete was originally sentenced to five years in prison but was transferred to house arrest at his uncle's home in Pretoria in October. He now faces a minimum sentence of 15 years.
