Sowetan Newest.jpg Party member loses ear and tooth at ANC meeting Mandla Khoza, Sowetan, Johannesburg, 22 March 2016 Fists flew during an ANC meeting in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, leading to one member losing an ear and a tooth. The incident happened on Sunday in KaNyamazane township where Bheki Zulu was contesting the chairperson position of ward 21. Zulu, who is responsible for local economic development and tourism in Mbombela, is recovering at Nelspruit Medi-Clinic after the fracas. When contacted about the incident yesterday, he said he could not give details but confirmed that he was in hospital. "Yes boet, I cannot talk now I am in hospital," he said. But an ANC member who did not want to be identified and who was at the meeting said: "People from Zulu's side started fighting with others. We did not want Zulu to stand. "In the process he was hit on the mouth and his tooth came out and someone also cut off his one ear," the ANC member said. Spokesman of the KaNyamazane police warrant officer Andries Skwambane confirmed the incident. "There was a fight during a community meeting; one of the people was hurt and he was sent to hospital," Skwambane said. ANC provincial secretary Mandla Ndlovu confirmed the incident but said he was waiting for a report from the region and the deployee of the ANC who was chairing the meeting. "Yes, we heard about the incident but there [is] not much that we know now." Ndlovu said the ANC did not encourage members to fight one another if there was a disagreement.
