Morning Star.png Opposition's Violent Stunt Gets MPs Thrown Out The Morning Star, London, 18 May 2016 Opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs engaged in a planned disruption of South Africa's parliament yesterday, brawling with security guards who ejected them from the building. The EFF had made clear beforehand that its members intended to shout down President Jacob Zuma and demand that he leave office because of corruption allegations against him. The party, whose leaders sport red boiler suits and helmets to display their supposed working-class credentials, had sought a court ruling on Monday seeking to bar the parliamentary speaker from ordering their removal whatever their conduct. African National Congress chief whip Jackson Mthembu welcomed the Western Cape High Court decision, noting that the EFF was essentially asking the court for "the carte blanche right to disrupt this afternoon's sitting scheduled for oral questions to the president." He insisted later that EFF MPs should be prosecuted on criminal charges of assaulting parliamentary security staff and malicious damage to property.
