SABC.png ANC remains the party of choice for most South Africans Amos Phago, SABC, Johannesburg, 18 May 2016 A recent survey by research group Afrobarometer has revealed that the African National Congress (ANC) remains a party of choice for most South Africans. The survey conducted amongst 2 400 people shows that majority of the population trust the ANC and that the ruling party would have retained it support if elections were to have been held 2016. The study was released at the University of Johannesburg on Tuesday night. Researcher Sibusiso Nkomo says opposition parties could theoretically make inroads among some undecided citizens who do not feel close to any political party. "We found that most people intend voting for the ANC if the elections were held last year, but we also see an increase in people saying they will vote for opposition parties." The study comes just three months before the elections with political parties engaged in a fierce contestation for votes. The survey suggests that opposition parties will face significant challenges in diminishing the ANC's electoral dominance in the upcoming local government elections, particularly because very few South Africans cite policy issues as the main difference between parties. Opposition parties could possibly get some of the un-pledged votes.
