MortarBoardCULong.jpg 500 Years of Protestant Reformation On 31 October 1517, Martin Luther sent his "95 Theses", a list of propositions for debate, enclosed with a letter to Albert of Brandenburg, the Archbishop of Mainz. Luther is believed to have also posted, or nailed, the Theses on the door of All Saints' Church and other churches in Wittenberg. 31 October 1517 is widely considered to be, and is commemorated as, the start of the Reformation that split the Catholic Church of the time and gave rise to many new forms of organised Christian religious practice and institutions, many of them represented in South Africa and Southern Africa to this day. 31 October 2017 will be celebrated as the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. There is a Martin Luther 2017 web site at https://www.luther2017.de/en There is also a Lutheran web site at https://2017.lutheranworld.org/ with says that Among other things, the latter web site says that there will be an Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation in Windhoek, Namibia this year with the main theme "Liberated by God's Grace" to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The Communist University is currently running, on one of its four channels, our course called "Philosophy and Religion".
