Hi, I think it would be interesting to provide a facility that goes beyond "for:" to provide link recommendations using pairwise link exchanges.
This is like collaborative filtering, but people's identities are not hidden and more decisions are made by people rather than algorithms. As an example of this approach, I might be interested new AI and graphics links and have some AI and hci links to suggest. At this point, the system matches up people who potentially have something to gain from each other through a link exchange. For example, I might be paired up with someone who has graphics links to give and wants AI links in return. At this point, I can then look at my history with this person to see if he/she has given me interesting links in the past. If I have no history with him/her, then I could look at some of his/her sample links, the number of past accepted link exchanges vs the number of rejected link exchanges, etc. He/she does the same with me. If we both agree, a link exchange takes place and the interaction histories are updated. Some issues to consider: * would this work with public links? * if not, how much should be hidden? * how can someone tell what I would like?
