I've been using Yojimbo for several days now and I really like it! I'll
be buying it soon. In the meantime, here's a list of suggestions and
things I found lacking:

First, I have a few suggestions related to using Yojimbo with the
keyboard. I believe the program should be fully usable without a
mouse. This is especially important if Yojimbo is brought up using the
F6 key (search within Yojimbo), because if I brought the program up
using a key I probably want to use the keyboard to access information
within it as well. As it is now, I have to reach for the mouse.

For an excellent example of a program usable without a mouse see the
Vienna RSS reader, in particular observe how cursor keys and TAB behave
there.

TAB order:

When the focus is in the collections panel, pressing tab should take me
to the list of documents, not to the little buttons below the
collections panel.

>From the search box pressing TAB should take me to the list of documents
found, not to the list of collections. Next TAB should go to the title,
then tags, then content (NOT to the rarely used "Encrypt" button!)

Pressing Return after entering something in the search box should also
display the results and take me to the first result.

When creating new documents using the little dialog box in the corner of
the screen, I don't want to TAB over the little arrow button next to the
"Name", I want to go straight to tags and then the text.

Tag cloud: I would like to be able to browse my notes and documents
using tags, but without creating custom smart folders for every tag
combination. There is a program for cataloging PDF files called Yep that
has this implemented very well. They display a tag cloud where you can
click and every click add a tag to the list of currently active tags for
the search, in effect narrowing down your document selection to a subset
of tags. It makes for extremely convenient searching -- there are always
several ways to get to a particular selection of tags.

Images: it is great to be able to insert images into your Yojimbo
documents, but I would really like to be able to see smaller versions of
my images, without them taking up the entire screen. Perhaps a
preferences setting specifying how images are to be displayed, in terms
of percentage of window width?

Drop dock: a great tool, but why not allow displaying smart folders (tag
collections) in the drop dock as well? That way, if I drop a document
onto a smart folder, Yojimbo would automatically apply the tags from the
tag collection to the document being dropped. That would make for a very
convenient tagging of newly added documents.

Smarter smart folders: I'd really like to be able to exclude tags.

Hierarchical folders: not much to explain here. The current flat list of
folders is limiting.

Inline documents: please display the file name and date along with the
little icon. As it is now, I have to describe the icons manually, which
is tedious. Perhaps this needs a preferences setting.

And last, please give us an option to disable those popup windows with
documents? Pretty please? I really like the single-window layout of
Yojimbo and I'd prefer not to have extra popups appear. As for now, they
appear when I double-click an item or (which is more annoying) when I
use Quicksilver's Show in Yojimbo action.

that's all for now, and thanks for a great program!
