I agree with Jan here: nothing is being "added" or "deleted". Instead, the visibility of a feature is being turned on or off. The View menu and, perhaps to a lesser degree, the cog wheel menu, are natural locations for this sort of control. It's a paradigm that's well-established among other applications by Apple and third parties.
