IMO, the lack of people stepping up and helping Geronimo pass its TCK
should not reflect poorly on the Yoko community. The lack of people
responding to Rick's questions should be a cause for great concern.
I want to vigorously decouple Geronimo's TCK effort from Yoko's
criteria for graduation.

Alan

Hi rick,
Personally i had volunteered to help with the TCK issues & i had
also sent
an NDA to geir. But haven't heard back...
You have to hound Geir. Just sendint the NDA doesn't work. You
have to
remind him 4 or 5 times that you sent it and which TCK you want
access to.
He likes to make sure you're really serious about requesting the
TCK. :-)

There are two separate issues here. The first issue is the timing of
cutting the 1.0 release of yoko. Geronimo is going to be needing
one in
a very short period of time, but they are really only dependent on
the
base ORB. Waiting until the end of March is too late for Geronimo's
purposes.
The second issue is whether the yoko project is ready to graduate
from
the incubator and become a top level project. This is a question of
community, not of technology, and need not be tied to any particular
release.
My personal opinion on the graduation issue is this project is not
yet
ready to graduate. I'm basing that on the complete lack of
involvement
of the rest of the yoko community in reaching TCK certification or
even
willingness to answer questions about problems posted to the dev
list.
Despite my repeated requests for assistance, the TCK effort remained
basically a solo effort, with not even a single other committer
stepping
forward to get set up for TCK testing. This really a strong
community
showing.

But dont we need to set goals w.r.t the release.
I dont want to see a release that just uses the Yoko ORB & forgets
about the other components.
Graduation is a completely different issue than cutting a release.

I didn't think graduation was about state of the technology, but
instead about how well the community is following the Apache Way.

I think we are almost ready to graduate. Personally, i think we
need to
wait a little bit to get the corba binding & tools in order.
Tasks that i see that needs to be done:
- Tools (idltowsdl & wsdltoidl) need to have the some options
implemented.
- Corba references & corba system exceptions support in the
binding.
- Documentation on the ORB configuration.

I think things are humming right along. Do you think that
we're ready
to graduate? What tasks remain?
