Hi

We now have Milestones in the bugtracker, but how should we use that?
Usually milestones is set by the leader(-ers) of a project to make sure a part of the project is done within the timeframe and to assign a responsibility to someone. We will not be able to use it in the same way for obvious reasons , and i dont think anyone wants to use it like that:)

At the moment anyone that has developer access for mantis can change&set milestone to any bug AFAIK. So then it would be great if we could agree uppon a way to use the milestones, and hopefully without setting strict rules that makes the usage&maintanance harder and more limited. Milestones can only be added by managers and the current ones is 3.0 3.1 and pending.

My suggestion to how we can use milestones is that we keep the current configuration with more milestone types added when needed. But we try to only use milestones when something is really going to be fixed at a spesific time(with time i mean before 3.0 3.1 or whatever). That way it will work as a To-Do-List and make it easy to see whats still missing before a version can be released. Its really easy to list the bugs by milestone in Mantis. This means that milestones will only be set by the person a bug is assigned to and only when he belives he can get it done before the the release the milestone is related to.

I know this might seem like a discussion that is not really important, but it doesnt steal to much time to take the discussion
So what are your opinions?
