1 The default smart channel is wrong it appears. Likewise, it would be useful
for users if the installcd channel was included by default for those who
download the full size iso rather than the slim version - then they can add
packages directly from the cd.

What seems to be wrong exactly ?

It seems not to be possible to add the installcd as removable media,
which strikes me odd. At least I wasn't able to use the removable tag.
Any ideas here ?

2 Although it works fine, a little more clarification may be in order during
the install. When selecting partitions, the option to choose a home partition
is available, but that is not a requirement for the install to work, so
perhaps on the first screen dealing with the partitioning, it would be useful
to explain that a root partition (and swap?) is all that is needed, however a
seperate home partition is useful for keeping your own data in in case of
upgrades etc.

Ok, will do that but trying to avoid additional screens ...

3 I received a few errors from udev on boot. Nothing which caused any issue,
but perhaps worrying for users? It could be simply down to my using vmware to
install the test iso in - but if others get these messages, it may need
looking at. Unknown key MODALIAS is one of the errors I think, the other was
good old suspend2.

Those udev errors are harmless and caused by the pcmcia-udev rules
which have to be fixed of course :) .

The boot time seems fast - even in vmware. Much quicker than booting my main
system in Yoper 2.x or any other distro! Nice one!

I was surprised to not find smartpm-gui installed by default. I had to add it
myself - that is something which I think a new user would need and should be
installed during the installation of Yoper.

If the package selection mechanism works it is part of any desktop
selection. That it was not installed is due to the not working package
installation using ftp. By the way: I updated the main yoper ftp. So
remote package installation should work again.

It may be nice to have a script run on first boot up into the gui, which
explains that the package manager is smart, maybe with a simple explanation
of how to use it. Not vital, but a nice touch for those coming to Yoper from
other distros (or indeed the older Yoper versions or <shudder> windows)

Actually it would be nice to have a nice little guide available
written in html and with some screenshots. Volunteers ?

Will continue to fiddle around with the install and see what else I can come
up with before Saturday :)

Thanks a lot. That's what we need. Input input input :) . And it's
much better than going outside at the moment I suppose.

regards
