Something else that's been bugging me for some time is that there are three controls in the lower 'part' frame that are not in fact part controls!

These are: The part number (it sets the part that's displayed but does
nothing to it). The number of available parts.

Those are quite logical and intuitive as they are now.
Please keep them as they are.

For me this first line reads as follows
"the 2nd part of possibly 16 parts is Instrument XYZ, select/edit it!"
For me, these are the most frequently used controls in that dialog,
especially when the Mixer Panel is not displayed...

Just it's not editing the part, the first line is in fact a part selector.
So maybe it could be separated visually by a ridge

The Pan Law.
Agreed on that one. I hadn't used it yet,
and intuitively I would have expected this Pan Law just to apply to
the current instrument, not globally. Just tried it, and it is indeed
global. So that's something non-intuitive.

On the other hand, it is located quite close to the Pan button,
so I'm unsure where a better place might be. If it's global, it
rather belongs into the top part of the dialog, but unfortunately
that top region is already quite crowded.
