It was indeed possible to rebuild that version without much ado on my
current Debian/Trixie System, and such that it is linked against FLTK-1.4
Since I have installed also the same Distro (Trixie) into my test VirtualBox
I can move that executable directly into the VM.
The behaviour there is exactly as expected
- it crashes at the point where the UI starts with an SEGFAULT
- when started with FLTK_BACKEND=x11 then the UI starts without problem
In a nutshell: this problem is not related to any of our recent GUI
reworks and tweaks. All symptoms rather point into a problem with the
FLTK-Wayland backend
