Even though I'm not required to, I must say: I'm impressed! If you
really succeed with what you sketched here (not that I doubt you or your
skills, but is sounds like an _awful_ lot of work!) this will make
yoshimi a modern and flexible killer application!

I hadn't thought about Calf and I must admit that I only know it from
Ardour *plugins*, but now that you mention it, I remember that it a)
looks great, b) has a good usability, c) is scalable, and d) has the
widgets required for yoshimi. But I think it's linux-only, right? Have
you thought about using a versatile cross-platform toolkit like qt and
qwt (http://qwt.sourceforge.net/index.html)?
