I hadn't thought about Calf and I must admit that I only know it from Ardour *plugins*, but now that you mention it, I remember that it a) looks great, b) has a good usability, c) is scalable, and d) has the widgets required for yoshimi. But I think it's linux-only, right? Have you thought about using a versatile cross-platform toolkit like qt and qwt (http://qwt.sourceforge.net/index.html)?
