Someone was using an automated reply. The reply was set to send an e-
mail replying to all incoming e-mail saying "I'm not here, I'll get
back to you when I come back".
The problem is that if you just set it up like that, even though it
works just fine for regular e-mails, it creates havoc on discussion
lists.
As soon as an e-mail is sent to the list, the auto-reply sends a
reply. Since you are subscribed to the list, your acount also receives
the auto-reply… and sends another auto-reply, and so on and so on. A
real nightmare!!
Auto-replies HAVE to be setup to exclude discussion lists.
The solution was to force-unsubscribe the person using the auto-reply,
which broke the loop and got things under control again.
